On December 20, 1947, Montenegro witnessed the establishment of its first meteorological service, laying the groundwork for the subsequent evolution into the esteemed Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology of Montenegro (IHMS). The 76th anniversary of this pivotal institution was recently commemorated, with an event that showcased the MONTEVITIS project to external stakeholders.

Over the years, the IHMS has expanded its focus from meteorology to include hydrology, hydrography, oceanography, and seismic activities. The institute has consistently strived to enhance both technical capabilities and human resources, aligning itself with leading European and global organizations such as WMO, IHO, ECMWF, EUMETNET, EUMETSAT, ESSL, EFAS, and others, while adhering to national and international regulations.

To mark this significant milestone, the IHMS unveiled a noteworthy publication during the celebration – the second edition of the Nautical Guide for the Montenegrin Coast of the Adriatic Sea, known as Pilot. This publication, following the first edition released in 2013, promises to guide readers through the captivating coastal areas of Montenegro, offering insights into picturesque beaches, hidden coves, spectacular landscapes, and important maritime routes.

The ceremony was attended by key figures, including the Institute’s director, Ms. Dušica Brnović, and the editor of Pilot, Mr. Luka Ćalić. Darko Kovačević also addressed the guests, enriching the latest edition of Pilot with his insights on underwater cultural heritage.
